BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Gas prices continue to go down after setting record highs in early June.
Spotters for the web site gasbuddy.com reported gas prices in Branch County on Monday morning were mostly between $4.29 and $4.49 a gallon which was below the average price for the State of Michigan.
This after the price sky rocketed to $5.19 a gallon during the first week of June.
While the trip to the pump is not as painful as a month ago, keep in mind that before Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, gas around the Coldwater area was selling for as low as $3.29.
Triple-A Michigan reported Monday the average price in the state was $4.63 a gallon which is a drop of 18 cents in the past week but it was still $1.36 higher than last year at this time.
Experts are citing several reasons for the price drop at the pump in recent weeks.
Crude oil prices have gone down almost $30 a barrel since early March.
The Energy Information Administration also reported last week that crude oil and gas inventories were up.
