BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – When students in the Bronson Community School district return to the classroom next month, there will be a revised cell phone policy in place after it was approved by the Bronson School Board on June 6.
The new policy allows students to use their cell phones during appropriate times throughout the day as long as they don’t create a distraction or disruption but wireless communication devices are not to be used in the classroom.
The revised policy reads as follows…”Students may use wireless communication devices (WCDs) before and after school, during their lunch break, in between classes as long as they do not create a distraction, disruption or otherwise interfere with the educational environment, during after school activities (e.g. extra curricular activities), and at school-related functions. Use of WCDs, except approved laptops and PDAs, at any other time is prohibited and they must be powered completely off and concealed and secured in hall lockers (but not locker room lockers) or vehicles, or stored out of sight.”
Bronson High School Principal Wes McCrea said in a post on the school’s Facebook page that one of the district and building goals for this school year is increasing student academic engagement.
The revised policy came after months of discussion about implementing a stricter policy similar to ones currently in place in the Coldwater and Quincy school districts.
