HOMER, MI (WTVB) – The turbulent summer for the Big 8 Conference continues as a second charter member has decided to join another conference.
Homer Community Schools Superintendent Mike Leskowich said Wednesday on the district’s Facebook page that the district’s school board voted 6-0 Monday night to join the Cascades Conference.
This follows the Jonesville School Board voting unanimously on June 27 to leave the Big 8 Conference.
Homer and Jonesville would move to the Cascades Conference beginning with the 2023-2024 school year.
Homer would be the 12th and final Cascades Conference member.
Leskowich said the decision was difficult adding it was made after thoroughly looking at the information and weighing both sides of the discussion.
Community forums were held last week before Monday’s vote by the school board.
Jonesville and Homer were original members of the Little “C” Conference when it was formed in 1931.
They were later part of the Big 8 Conference when it formed in 1973.
