EUGENE, Ore. (Reuters) – Portugal’s Pedro Pichardo continued his dominance in the men’s triple jump by easing to a first World Championships title on Saturday, adding to his Olympic gold from Tokyo.
Pichardo, a two-times silver medallist at the World Championships for Cuba before switching allegiance to Portugal, jumped 17.95 metres on his first attempt to take the top spot.
Burkina Faso’s Hugues Fabrice Zango came closest to Pichardo’s mark with an effort of 17.55m, taking silver to improve on his third-placed finish in 2019, while China’s Olympic silver medallist Zhu Yaming claimed bronze.
