COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – There will be a change in the way meals are served for qualified seniors in Branch County on October 1 following action last Thursday by the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency Board of Health.
They went against a recommendation from the Program, Policy and Appeals Committee and approved bids from the Branch County Commission on Aging that awarded the C.O.A. a three year contract which would be renewable on a yearly basis.
The Community Action Agency also submitted bids for the federal grant contract that was offered by the Branch-St. Joseph Area Agency on Aging.
The bids covered congregate and home delivered meals.
The Commission on Aging said in its bid it would offer nearly 6,000 home delivered meals at a lower cost.
While Community Action Agency said they would use $49,000 in Community Services Block Grant federal funding, the Commission on Aging said $172,000 would come from an approved senior millage.
Since the Burnside Center’s kitchen was closed almost five years ago, there would be a transitional period until the kitchen can become fully operational.
