LANSING, MI (WTVB) – A Detroit newspaper is reporting that the Michigan State Police is investigating how contraband got into the Lakeland Correctional Facility last Friday aboard a truck belonging to Waste Management, Incorporated.
Michigan Department of Corrections spokesman Chris Gautz confirmed the information about the incident and told the Detroit Free Press, “We obviously have to let the investigation go through its course, but it’s not believed the company is involved at this point”.
He went to say the packages contained marijuana, tobacco and suboxone along with three cell phones and chargers
It was the second such incident this year at Lakeland but Gautz said the M.D.O.C. had no plans at this time to switch from Waste Management.
The incident is also being investigated by the Corrections Department.
