BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson Vikings are off to their first 2-0 start since 2011 after they defeated the Springport Spartans 50-12 on Thursday night in their Big Eight Conference opener.
Bronson set the tone for the night by jumping out to a 22-0 lead after the first quarter.
They took a 30-6 lead into halftime.
Bronson has outscored their opponents 70-19 over the first two games.
The Vikings host Michigan Center in their home opener next Friday night.
Meanwhile, the Union City Chargers opened Big 8 Conference play on Thursday night with a 42-6 victory over Branch County rival Quincy.
Chargers quarterback Eli Payne passed for 238 yards and three touchdowns.
Rick Austin had two of the touchdown receptions. He had four catches for 189 yards.
Landyn Crance scored a pair of touchdowns. Jeremy Zehr and Riley Laird also struck pay dirt for Union City as the Chargers had a 466-116 edge in total yards.
Ethan Copas scored the lone Quincy touchdown.
The Chargers are now 1-1 and will host Jonesville next Friday.
The Orioles drop to 0-2 and will host arch-rival Reading on September 9.
