CENTREVILLE, MI (WTVB) – A Sturgis man was convicted in St. Joseph County Circuit Court on Thursday for crimes he committed in that county on October 22, 2021.
27-year-old Dylan Brand was convicted by a jury following a two day trial of third degree fleeing and eluding, assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer and felony firearm.
Due to his previous convictions, Brand could be sentenced to life in prison on September 30.
Brand was arrested by Sturgis Police and a Michigan State Police K9 after he fled from law enforcement at speeds approaching 100 mph through a residential area of Sturgis.
He was captured with the help of citizens who guided law enforcement by pointing in his direction as he tried to flee through a neighborhood. He eventually collided with another vehicle.
Brand and a co-defendant then fled on foot but they were chased by police and taken into custody.
A Michigan State Police K-9 unit assisted by tracking down the location of a stolen handgun that St. Joseph County Prosecuting Attorney David Marvin said was hidden by Brand during the foot chase.
Authorities say it was most likely the gun allegedly used in a Branch County armed robbery earlier in the day.
Charges are pending against Brand in Branch County after he allegedly robbed a Bronson area woman at gunpoint in her home earlier in the day.
Brand was arrested June 30 and turned over to St. Joseph County authorities after he did not appear for a Branch County Circuit Court hearing and a $100,000 cash bond he posted in Branch County back in March was revoked.
