COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Marshall scored 21 unanswered second half points as they beat Coldwater 35-14 at Cardinal Field in the Interstate 8 opener for both teams.
The game started with promise for the Cardinals, as quarterback Zach Coffing connected with tight end Donte Work for the first score of the game:
Coldwater led 7-0 after one quarter; the score was tied 14-14 at halftime. The Redhawks would score twice in the third to take a 28-14 lead into the final frame and would ice the game with a 99-yard interception return as the Cardinals were trying to mount a fourth quarter comeback:
Coffing was 10-of-29 passing for 173 yards, a touchdown, and 3 interceptions; he also had 21 carries for 67 yards and a rushing score. Work finished with 7 catches for 120 yards and a score, while Alex Robey led the defense with 6 tackles.
Coldwater’s record fell to 0-3 overall, 0-1 in the Interstate 8. They will travel to Hastings next week.
