COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a resolution on Monday night which awarded additional sidewalk repair work to Concord Excavating & Grading of Concord.
City Manager Keith Baker said the repair work would be part of a change order to the Michigan/Washington/Perkins/Sprague Road and Utility Improvement project contract in the amount not to exceed $85,866.75.
The City Council discussed making additional repairs to existing public sidewalks primarily along East and West Chicago as one of a number of quality of life improvement projects utilizing about $50,000 that was approved in the Fiscal Year 2022-23 City budget.
Existing fund balance reserves would also be used.
City Planner Dean Walrack said they looked at some of the areas next to downtown along with some of the side streets.
Walrack said interns from Western Michigan University have looked at city sidewalks for the last two summers.
Since the City has an existing contract with Concord Excavating and Grading for the Michigan/Washington/Perkins/Sprague Road and Utility Improvement project that is nearing completion, Baker said it would be possible to amend the existing contract to include additional concrete work.
Baker said Concord Excavating and Grading was the lowest of six bidders for the Michigan/Washington/Perkins/Sprague street project. They also performed the 2021-22 additional sidewalk work in the First and Second Wards.
