CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A 39-year-old man from Monroe who was described as suicidal was taken into custody Tuesday night near Eaton Rapids after a chase that went through several counties.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department says their Deputies received information regarding a suicidal subject who had been involved in a police chase in Branch County and had fired shots at deputies earlier in the day.
A pursuit in Branch County started in Coldwater. It went north on Michigan Avenue before heading to the northeastern part of the county.
At least four Sheriff’s vehicles were involved in the pursuit. A deputy was forced off of the road but he was not injured and there was no damage to the vehicle.
The suspects cell phone location was later pinged near Homer just before 7:30 p.m..
A Calhoun County deputy located the suspect in a vehicle on 25 ½ Mile Road near J Drive South in Albion Township.
Deputies tried to stop the suspect but he fled and the Sheriff’s Department says he fired a handgun from the driver-side window at them multiple times during the chase.
The chase went into Jackson, Ingham and Eaton Counties.
After hitting spike strips near Eaton Rapids, the vehicle finally came to a stop near the 7200 block of East 5 Point Highway.
The armed suspect then tried to make a run for it.
He was confronted by officers behind the rear of a private residence and surrendered.
Numerous agencies assisted Calhoun County Sheriff’s Deputies during this incident and no injuries were reported.
The suspect was lodged at the Calhoun County Jail on numerous charges.
