COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A request to purchase software in order to classify inmates at the Branch County Jail was brought forward by the Branch County Board of Commissioners on Thursday morning for their next regular meeting on September 27.
Branch County Jail Captain Fred Blankenship said the Northpointe Classification Suite is designed to reduce liability while keeping inmates and staff safe.
He said the software will help them as it’s currently difficult to classify inmates properly.
There would be a one-time cost of nearly $36,000 for implementation services with an annual cost of over $17,000.
No money from the general fund would be used. Instead, the software will be purchased by using money from the Special Inmate Commissary Fund.
