STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – Four second half goals powered the Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team to a 4-3 victory at Sturgis Saturday.
After being down 1-0 at the half, the Cardinals got on the scoreboard with 33:23 to play in the game on the first of two goals on the day from Ezaldeen Ahmed. Coldwater went up 2-1 with 31:00 left on a goal from Steven Covell, assisted by Eduardo Arroyo.
Sturgis tied the game 2-2 with 28:33 to play on a penalty kick after a Coldwater foul. The Cardinals took the lead again with 20:42 to play on an own goal, off a direct kick from Ezaldeen Ahmed.
Sturgis tied the game less than two minutes later, but Coldwater got the game winning goal from Laith Musa on a corner kick from Ahmed with 5:56 to play.
Franky Ramos made nine saves in goal as Sturgis outshot Coldwater 12-9.
The Cardinals improved their record to 4-4-3 with the non conference win. They will return to Interstate 8 Conference play Tuesday hosting Jackson Lumen Christi for AYSO Youth Night. Any Branch County AYSO player wearing a jersey will be admitted free and can walk out with the team for player introductions.
The Coldwater junior varsity team beat Sturgis 1-0 Saturday. Umari Umari scored the game’s lone goal, assisted by Liam Clark. Hunter Barnett made five saves in goal.
The JV team will host Okemos for AYSO Youth Night Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. The varsity game against Jackson Lumen Christi will follow around 6:30 p.m.
