FREMONT, IN (WTVB) – An Angola man was arrested Wednesday night after he allegedly tried to break into the home of an off-duty Indiana State Police Trooper.
Indiana State Police and the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched shortly before 8:00 p.m. to the 4600 block of West Nevada Mills Road to investigate a residential disturbance.
The caller said that an off-duty state trooper was involved in a physical altercation with a person that allegedly attempted to break-in to the trooper’s residence.
Officers arriving on scene shortly after the 911 call found off-duty Trooper George Youpel with a man restrained in handcuffs, and broken windows on the trooper’s home.
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Joshua Ray Enos, allegedly broke out several bedroom windows at the home.
A neighbor that first saw the attempted alleged break-in, reportedly challenged Enos verbally, at which time Enos was alleged to have become physically aggressive towards that neighbor.
Youpel came out of his house and took action to intervene and protect his neighbor.
After what was described as a lengthy physical altercation, the trooper was able to gain control and get Enos in handcuffs.
Indiana State Police detectives arriving on scene assumed the investigation.
Enos was taken by Steuben County EMS to Cameron Memorial Community Hospital for a medical evaluation.
After being cleared by medical staff, Enos was then transported to the Steuben County jail, where he was booked into custody on charges of Residential Entry, Resisting Law Enforcement and Disorderly Conduct.
