William L. Orris, Jr., 81, of Coldwater, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2022 at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital.
The funeral service will be held Friday, September 30, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Mark Case officiating.
Visitation will be held, prior to the service, beginning at 5:00 PM, at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date at Lockwood Cemetery.
William was born July 29, 1941 in Niles, MI to William and Vivian (Stubbs) Orris. He married Patricia Kestner on June 24, 1961 in Angola, IN. She preceded him in death on October 3, 2019.
Mr. Orris worked with the Branch County Road Commission for 41 years, primarily as the County Highway Engineer. He was instrumental in the development of the road commission asphalt plant and very proud of the quality and maintenance of Branch County roads and bridges during his tenure.
He, along with his wife Pat, also managed the Branch County Memorial Park at Messenger Lake for 28 years.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, gardening and camping, for many years at Ludington State Park. He loved to travel, especially road trips with friends and family. He had a passion for food, always claiming “A man needs nothing more than a full stomach.” Bill had a great outlook on life, an upbeat attitude and above all else, he was a devoted family man, a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Bill is survived by his children Michael (Terri) Orris of Union City, Denise (Tony) MacArthur of Coldwater; his brother Edward (Lori) Orris of Buchanan; his grandchildren Dylan (Kasey) Orris, Nicholas (Brooke) MacArthur, Renee (Erik) Gardner; his great grandchildren Elleanora MacArthur and Frankie; his loving cat “Baby”, the Kestner family, and many friends, especially those from the Messenger Lake Campground.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother Charles “Chuck” Orris.
Memorials may be directed to the Burnside Senior Center.
