COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man was given a one year suspended jail sentence and placed on probation for 30 months on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court after he entered a no contest plea to an amended count of attempted second degree criminal sexual conduct.
24-year-old Samuel James Hanshaw was also ordered to register as a sex offender.
He can not have any alcohol or drugs and must stay out of bars under terms of his probation.
Hanshaw must also submit to a search without a warrant from police.
In exchange for his plea, three counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct were dismissed by prosecutors.
The original charges were filed following an investigation by the Branch County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan Department of Child Protective Services.
