STEUBEN COUNTY, IN (WTVB) – Steuben County Sheriff Rodney Robinson announced Monday night an arrest has been made in connection with the hit and run crash that has resulted in the death of a 13 year old boy on County Road 275 North near Lake James this past Saturday night.
45 year old Hope A. Richmond of Montpelier, OH was taken into custody by Sheriff’s detectives at a residence near the intersection of State Road 827 and County Road 400 North south of Fremont just before 5:30 pm on Monday.
The Sheriff’s Office reports they were following up on a tip received from a Steuben County citizen who reported seeing a vehicle possibly involved in the incident parked at the residence.
Detectives then made contact with Richmond and her vehicle at the residence. They say damage to the vehicle appeared to be consistent with the crash and Richmond placed herself and her vehicle in the area of the crash.
Following an interview, Richmond was booked into the Steuben County Jail on charges of leaving the scene of a fatal accident and leaving the scene of an accident causing serious bodily injury.
She remains held without bond pending an initial court appearance.
A search warrant was also obtained to seize her silver 2012 Jeep Liberty as evidence as the investigation continues.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all those who assisted with providing an overwhelming amount of tips and information that ultimately led to the apprehension of the driver and vehicle believed to be involved in the crash.
