ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – Three persons are dead after three shooting incidents in Angola on Sunday morning.
The last two incidents involved three Angola Police officers and a Indiana State Trooper. The Indiana State Police says officers with the Angola Police Department responded to a home in the 400 block of North Elizabeth Street for a shots-fired call just after 1:00 a.m.
When officers arrived, they found two dead men outside the residence. Detectives and Crime Scene investigators from the Indiana State Police Ft. Wayne Post were requested by the Angola Police Department to assist with this investigation.
At approximately 5:30 a.m., Angola Police officers and an Indiana State Trooper encountered a man in the 600 block of South Elizabeth Street that matched the description of the person suspected of shooting the two men on North Elizabeth. During this encounter, the male suspect displayed a handgun and engaged in an exchange of gunfire with officers.
The suspect then fled on foot on West Felicity Street. Near the intersection of West Felicity Street and South Wayne Street another exchange of gunfire occurred. The male was struck at least once in this exchange of gunfire. Officers began to render aid to the male until paramedics could arrive.
The male was transported to Cameron Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
At the conclusion of this ongoing investigation, all information will be turned over to the Steuben County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
