NORTH WEBSTER, IN (WTVB) – The National Weather Service says the first snow of the season fell on Monday in parts of Southwest Michigan and Northern Indiana during what was called a lake enhanced snow event.
It caused an intense band of lake effect rain/snow to develop during the afternoon and evening hours bringing one to four inches of accumulation in areas of northern Indiana.
Heavy, wet snow brought down trees and limbs around the area, and caused power outages.
Some roads became snow covered and slick.
There were wind gusts of 40-50 mph near the Lake Michigan shoreline and 30 to 40 mph inland through the afternoon and evening.
The Branch County Memorial Airport reported a wind gust of 33 mph at about 1:00 p.m..
