COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater Zoning Board of Appeals approved its updated bylaws and Rules of Procedures on Wednesday night but not before there was a lengthy discussion over the circumstances of board members abstaining.
Board Chair Gordon Swan wanted more clarity to what was being purposed.
City Planner Dean Walrack said he did not understand someone serving on a board doesn’t vote on a matter because they don’t feel like voting.
After further discussion, City Attorney Megan Angell suggested the bylaws be adopted while she looks into the issue being discussed further.
The City of Coldwater is looking to achieve the “Redevelopment Ready Community” designation through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
As part of this effort, bylaws and Rules of Procedures have to be adopted by all development-related boards and commissions, including the ZBA.
Walrack said in his report much of the bylaws language came from the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act, which requires bylaws to be adopted.
