COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A downtown Coldwater business owner expressed her displeasure to the City Council on Monday night about the current assessments for the Central Business District’s City Parking Lot Maintenance and Improvement Program which is up for renewal during the next Council meeting.
Pending final City Council action on November 14, the program will collect over $66,000 in annual assessments from downtown businesses for the next four years which is about $9,000 more than the last assessment in 2018. The parking lot maintenance program is renewed every four years by the city.
But Jeanni Lint points out there have been some changes since the Wilber’s Furniture store closed.
…and that has led to a lack of space.
Neighborhood Services Director and City Assessor Deb Sikorski-Bernath says those within the Central Business District have been notified of a proposed dollar amount.
The final amounts will be set after final action is taken by the Council during their next meeting.
This is a problem that was totally preventable and directly caused by the city. Coldwater has eliminated far too many parking spaces. Thier attitude sucks. One city official told me “We have too many parking spaces” and another one said “People will just have to walk”.
The only thing this town has eliminated more that parking spaces are trees.
Ny the way, not one article was written about last month’s meeting by either the paper lor this station. Hiding something? Maybe the city doesn’t want draw attention that there was one? Therre was and several things got pointed out to them.
