LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Branch County’s unemployment rate in September dropped two-tenths of percent from the previous month to three-point-eight percent according to data released Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget.
The report stated not seasonally adjusted jobless rates receded in all 17 Michigan labor market areas between August and September.
One analyst points out the re-opening of schools and colleges following summer vacation had a lot to do with the figures in Thursday’s report.
Associate Director of the Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives Wayne Rourke said in a statement released by the DTMB, “Michigan regional labor markets exhibited typical workforce reductions during September. Payroll jobs advanced largely due to local schools and colleges re-opening for the fall.”
The report showed Branch County tied for the 19th lowest unemployment rate among Michigan’s 83 counties.
Unemployment rates dropped slightly in a couple of neighboring counties.
Hillsdale and St. Joseph Counties were both at four-point-one percent while Calhoun County’s rate dropped a half percent to four-point-seven.
Michigan’s September unemployment rate was unchanged from the previous month at four-point-one percent.
Unemployment rates in September ranged from two-point-one percent in Livingston County to seven-point-seven percent in Oscoda and Roscommon Counties.
