JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – At least nine Branch County area runners have qualified for next Saturday’s M.H.S.A.A. Cross Country Finals at Michigan International Speedway.
Heading to the Division Three state finals out of Friday’s regional hosted by Napoleon at Ella Sharp Park in Jackson are Ava Hathaway, Ashlynn Harris and Ashton Wells of Bronson along with Ben Gautsche and Skyler Fraley of Union City and Rhett Reif of Quincy.
Bronson was sixth in the boys regional meet while Union City was ninth. Quincy did not have enough runners for a team score.
Hanover-Horton, Jonesville and Leslie advanced to the state finals as they were the top three teams.
Gautsche was seventh in a time of 17:15 while Reif was tenth with a time of 17:19.9.
Union City’s girls finished one position out of going to the state finals as they were 52 points back of third place Onsted.
The Chargers were fourth while Bronson was seventh and Quincy was 11th.
Jackson Lumen Christi, Leslie and Onsted were the top three teams in the regional meet.
Hathaway finished fifth with a time of 19:31.4 while her teammate Harris was tenth with a time of 20:07.8. Fraley was 12th with a time of 20:44.
Meanwhile, Dani VanLente, Carrisa Shedd and Bo VanKeet of Tekonsha advanced to the M.H.S.A.A. State Finals in the Division Four regional at Portage Central.
VanKeet was 18th in the boys meet while VanLente was seventh in the girls meet and Shedd was 14th.
Coldwater competes Saturday morning at the Division Two regional meet in Bangor.
