CENTREVILLE, MI (WTVB) – A Sturgis man who was convicted in St. Joseph County Circuit Court for crimes he committed in that county on October 22, 2021 was given a prison sentence of up to 17 years on Thursday.
27-year-old Dylan Brand was convicted by a jury following a two day trial of third degree fleeing and eluding, assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer and felony firearm.
On line St. Joseph County court records show Brand got 15 years on the first two counts and an additional two years for felony firearm. He could have gotten a term life in prison because of his previous convictions.
Brand was arrested by Sturgis Police and a Michigan State Police K9 after he fled from law enforcement at speeds approaching 100 mph through a residential area of Sturgis. A Michigan State Police K-9 unit assisted in tracking down a stolen handgun that St. Joseph County Prosecuting Attorney David Marvin said was hidden by Brand during the foot chase.
Authorities say it was most likely the gun allegedly used in a Branch County armed robbery earlier in the day. Charges are pending against Brand in Branch County after he allegedly robbed a Bronson area woman at gunpoint in her home earlier in the day.
Brand was arrested June 30 and turned over to St. Joseph County authorities after he did not appear for a Branch County Circuit Court hearing.
A $100,000 cash bond he posted in Branch County back in March was revoked.
