COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – This is the week veterans of the armed forces are honored and several programs are scheduled around Branch County.
The Coldwater American Legion Post 52 will host a Veterans Day open house this Friday, November 11, 2022.
The open house will begin at 11:00 a.m. with a rifle salute and the playing of Taps by the Coldwater American Legion Drill Team marking the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when the armistice that ended combat in World War I took effect.
A brief program will follow including remarks from American Legion officers.
There is no cost to attend the open house. There will be a cash bar and complimentary food.
The Bronson American Legion will host a ceremony Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Park at the main four corners.
The Burnside Senior Center in Coldwater will have their annual Veterans Day program Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m..
The program will be hosted by Bob Betts and the local Daughters of the American Revolution.
The guest speaker will be Joann Puffer Kotcher, who served in the American Red Cross during the wars in Korea and Vietnam.
She was sent to Vietnam at the start of the war and was a member of the unarmed civilians who were known as the Donut Dollies.
Kotcher was one of the first women allowed in a war zone. She wrote a book about her experiences titled, “Donut Dolly: An American Red Cross Girl’s War in Vietnam.”

Jefferson Elementary School in Coldwater will host a Veterans Day Celebration program at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday morning.
