BATAVIA TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A Union City man is facing numerous charges following a high speed pursuit late Thursday afternoon in which speeds were clocked at between 90 and 122 mph while two children were in the vehicle being pursued.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says their deputies saw a car traveling at a very high rate of speed at about 5:20 p.m. heading south on Old U.S. 27 at Garfield Road.
A pursuit ensured as deputies tried to stop the vehicle while it was weaving in and out of traffic.
After about five miles, the vehicle crashed at the end of West Fenn Road by Butcher Road.
When Deputies approached the driver, who was identified as 25-year-old Owen Waters, they saw two small children.
One was buckled and the other was not buckled up in the back seat.
Deputies arrested Waters for Felony Fleeing and Eluding, Driving While Intoxicated and two counts of Child Endangerment.
Branch County Child Protective Services and Life Care Ambulance assisted with a minor injury. The children were taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital for injury assessments.
Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted at the scene and at the Hospital by Bronson Fire Rescue, Branch County C.P.S. and Life Care Ambulance.
