COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Community School Superintendent Terry Ann Whelan announced during Monday’s Board of Education meeting that she would be retiring next June.
Reading from a prepared statement, Whelan said, “It is with mixed emotions that I am announcing my retirement/resignation as the Superintendent and Chief Financial Officer of Coldwater Schools, effective June 30, 2023. This was not an easy decision to make, as it has been my honor and pleasure to serve for the last nine years in the community where I was born and raised. I am also proud to have raised my own family in this wonderful community, where I currently have 9 grandchildren attending Coldwater Schools as the fifth generation.”
She has spent 29 years in education including 23 years as the Superintendent in three different districts.
Prior to returning to Coldwater, Whelan served as Superintendent for four years in Inkster and 12 years for Coloma Community Schools.
Whelan said she was proud of what the board, administration, and staff have accomplished over the last nine years.
She pointed out the district’s fund equity is healthy and the 2017 bond issue was passed which allowed the district to build a brand new fourth and fifth grade elementary building. Other renovation projects were performed in the district with funding from the bond.
Whelan closed her statement by saying, “Thank you for your their trust in me and for providing me with the amazing and heartfelt opportunity to serve you, as it truly has been a dream come true. I will always reflect fondly upon my time spent at Coldwater Schools and the relationships and friendships I have gained that I would not have otherwise. I am certain that with a strong community who have stood as the pillar for our many successful accomplishments, the future of Coldwater Schools will continue to hold promise and achieve success.”
