COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker is proposing the creation of a Citizens Academy program that he says would help inform citizens about their local government.
The item is on Monday’s City Council agenda.
Baker says in his memo to the Council that the program would target between 12 to 15 local residents through a series of classes and tours designed to teach them about how their local government works. The academy would meet approximately once per month and be held from mid-January through mid-June.
The participants would learn about various functions of City government and would also include tours of City facilities. During the monthly sessions, participants will learn about the responsibilities of City departments and the services they provide to the community.
According to Baker, the goal of the program is to create a core of well-informed community members who can serve as ambassadors and consider volunteering in the future for the City Council or a board and commission position.
The City Council is scheduled to vote Monday on a resolution that authorizes Baker to proceed with conducting a Citizens Academy Program.
