STEUBEN COUNTY, IN (WTVB) – The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office says three juvenile boys were involved in allegedly starting a fire late Saturday afternoon in a residence that was vacant and appeared to be abandoned.
The Hamilton Fire Department was called to a residence in the 7800 block of East County Road 500 South on a report of flames being visible.
The initial report also indicated that multiple individuals were seen running from the residence into a field.
A Hamilton Firefighter had to be treated for a hand injury sustained while fighting the fire.
Once Hamilton and firefighters from other agencies managed to put the flames out, Sheriff’s detectives were able to identify three male juvenile subjects that had been seen running from the burning residence.
All three were found a short time later and were brought to the Sheriff’s Office for questioning along with their parents.
A 17 year old male juvenile was identified as the person allegedly responsible for starting the fire. All three involved will be referred to Steuben County Juvenile Probation.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional juvenile charges may be sought.
