COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Bronson man was sent to prison on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court after he entered a no contest plea to a charge of second degree criminal sexual conduct.
27-year-old Jonathon Jay Wyant was ordered to serve between 18 months to 15 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections.
Wyant was given credit for 132 days already served. He must also register with the State of Michigan as a sex offender.
Once out of prison, Wyant will be monitored for the rest of his life. He can not have any contact with the victim in the case and will not be allowed to be within 500 feet of the victim’s home, school or place of employment.
In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dismissed another second degree C.S.C. count as well as a charge of children-accosting for immoral purposes.
Wyant was charged in connection with a incident that according to Branch County court documents took place on Ralston Road sometime in either 2013 or 2014. The victim was a girl who was either seven or eight-years-old at the time.
Wyant and the girl did not see each other again until 2021. Court documents state that after seeing him, it brought back a lot of memories and she then informed her mother.
Wyant was arrested following a Branch County Sheriff’s Department investigation.
