SHERWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater woman was lodged in the Branch County Jail following a crash in Sherwood Township on Sunday afternoon that the Branch County Sheriff’s Department says may have been alcohol-related.
Undersheriff Keith Eichler says the crash happened just before 1:30 p.m. on Riley Road near the Riley Dam. According to a news release from the Sheriff’s Department, Deputies found a single full-size pickup truck with power lines hanging from a severed electrical pole when they arrived.
The driver was identified as 39-year-old Amber Persails who had her 15-month-old twins as passengers. The deputies investigation shows the Persails’ pickup truck was east bound on Riley Road when it attempted to round the curve.
It then went out of control, skidded off the road and crashed into a utility pole. The pole that had a transformer and large telephone boxes on it was severed.
The Sheriff’s Department also reports the 15-month-old twins were not in Child Safety Seats. Persails was booked at the Branch County Jail on charges of felony DWI third offense causing accident, High Blood Alcohol Content and two count requests for Child Endangerment.
The twins were transported to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital by Life Care Ambulance for evaluation. Child Protective Services from the Department of Health and Human Services were also contacted in regard to this investigation.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by Life Care Ambulance, the Michigan D.N.R. and Union City Utilities employees.
