COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man was ordered to serve concurrent sentences of between four and ten years in the Michigan Department of Corrections on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court after entering guilty pleas on October 24 to three counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material.
62-year-old James Logan Neary was charged following an investigation by the Coldwater Police Department and Michigan State Police.
Five other charges were dismissed by prosecutors in exchange for his pleas. Neary was also given credit for 135 days already served in jail.
The sentencing order also called for Neary to register with the State of Michigan as a sex offender.
After being notified last March that Neary had child sexually abusive material on his computer, Coldwater Police obtained a search warrant and seized numerous hard drives, computers and devices from his residence. A search of the devices was completed by the Michigan State Police.
According to Branch County court documents, the State Police found at least two videos and thousands of photographs of alleged child sex abuse.
