COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners approved a request from Administrator Bud Norman on Tuesday to increase some of the current Building Inspection fees the county charges for the first time since 2009.
The Administration/Application Fee will be increased from $50 to $75 which is the same fee charged by the cities of Coldwater and Marshall.
The Inspection Fee will also go up from $55 to $60.
Norman said during last week’s work session that the current $100 fine for those starting projects prior to obtaining a permit would be increased.
Commissioner Tom Matthew objected during Tuesday’s meeting.
Norman felt that there is a lot of construction being done where permits are not being pulled and that this is a safety issue especially if work is being done by unqualified people.
The request was approved 4-1 with Matthew voting no.
