MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater’s comeback attempt against Marshall fell two points short as the Redhawks beat the visiting Cardinals 57-55 Friday night.
After trailing 15-7 after the first quarter and 32-18 at the half, Coldwater outscored Marshall 13-6 in the third and 24-19 in the fourth, with a pair of Donte Work free throws tying the game at 55-all with 6.6 seconds left. Marshall then had the ball in the backcourt facing a Coldwater press. Josh Pugh went the length of the floor and scored the game-winning basket on a layup with 0.8 seconds left.
Pugh finished with a game-high 19 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals, while Aaron Maxwell added 13 points and 6 blocks as the Redhawks improved to 2-2 overall, 1-1 in the Interstate 8.
The Cardinals dropped to 1-2 overall, 0-2 in the I-8, and were led by Ayden Dirschell and Zach Coffing with 12 points apiece. Dirschell had a double-double with 10 rebounds and 4 assists, while Coffing had 5 boards and Donte Work had an 11-point, 12-rebound double-double.
Coldwater plays at winless Portage Northern Tuesday.
