ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – An Angola Police officer was injured on Sunday afternoon when a mobile home exploded after a crash which involved a suspected drunk driver.
Angola Police say a vehicle driven by 66-year-old Jose Salud Gonzalez crashed into the residence in the 600 block of North Wayne Street and a connected gas meter at about 4:00 p.m..
NIPSCO was called after after a gas leak was detected.
Angola Police said in a news release, the mobile home that the gas meter was connected to exploded at 4:35 p.m.
The injured Angola Police officer was hit by flying debris. The officer was taken to a nearby hospital and was released after receiving treatment.
Both the mobile home and car were destroyed.
Gonzalez was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated.
Firefighters from Orland, Fremont, Ashley and Hamilton assisted the Angola Police and Fire Departments. Also assisting were the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and Steuben County EMS.
