WASHINGTON D.C. (WKZO AM/FM) – The Washington Capitals came back from a two-goal deficit to top the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 in overtime Monday night.
Detroit opened the scoring with a pair of goals in the first period as David Perron and Oskar Sundqvist gave the Red Wings the early lead.
Washington responded when Nic Dowd scored a pair of goals over a period of 11 seconds in the middle frame. Lucas Raymond gave Detroit the lead once again in the third period after scoring his eighth of the season. Erik Gustafsson tied the game at three when he found the back of the net 70 seconds later.
Dmitry Orlov scored the game-winning goal for the Caps with just over 20 seconds remaining in overtime.
Washington has won seven-of-eight.
The Red Wings have now lost six straight. They will host Tampa tomorrow.
