COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal girls soccer team improved to 3-2-1 on the season as they blanked Battle Creek Central on Saturday 8-0.
Samantha Bernard recorded a hat trick with a goal in the first half and two in the second half. Etta Machan had two goals and two assists, while Salet Morera Valdes had two goals and an assist. Aivry Chavez converted a penalty kick goal and recorded two assists, and Ava Gilchrist had a pair of assists. Goalie Abby Garcia did not face any shots on goal from the Bearcats.
The Cardinal JV team picked up a 2-0 victory. Layla Batiste scored both goals in the second half, with Paysen Schoch adding an assist.
Coldwater is back in action Monday night with a varsity-only contest at Pennfield.
STURGIS, MI – Bronson improved to 2-2-1 as they defeated Sturgis’s JV team 2-1. Itzel Albarran put the Vikings on the board, and Amerie Harris scored the game-winning goal off an Amy Barajas assist.
Bronson will host cross-county rival Quincy on Monday.
Overnight rains Saturday forced the cancellation of a handful of events due to field and court conditions. Among the affected events:
- Coldwater’s girls tennis triangular with Bronson and Adrian
- Bronson’s baseball round-robin at Buchanan
- Union City Invitational baseball and softball tournaments
