BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Orioles used a 13-4 third quarter to break open a tight game as they defeated the Union City Chargers 53-42 on Thursday night in a Big 8 Conference boys basketball game at McNett Fieldhouse in Union City.
Quincy took control of the game after the score was tied 19-19 at halftime.
Ashtyn Morris led Quincy with 14 points and nine rebounds while Sam Sawyer added 13 points.
Landon Galvin had a game high 15 points for Union City while Riley Laird had 10 points for the Chargers.
Quincy has won three straight. They are 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the Big 8 Conference.
Union City is 4-2 overall and are also 1-1 in the conference.
Quincy’s J.V. team is 7-0 after they defeated Union City 39-31. Jimmy Maynard led Quincy with 13 points while Clayton Benson added 12 points.
Bronson lost at Jonesville 52-41. The Vikings are now 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the Big 8.
Coldwater’s underclassmen basketball teams faced Parma Western on Thursday night.
The Coldwater freshman girls team defeated Parma Western 36-29. Madison Stumpf led Coldwater with 25 points. The JV girls team lost to Parma Western. They were led by Ava Longstreet and Ta’vaigh Hughes with eight points each.
The Coldwater freshman boys lost 59-42 to Parma Western. Owen Tappenden led the Cards with 10 points and 4 steals. Kayden Roby had 8 rebounds.
The Coldwater JV boys defeated Parma Western 58-46. Austin Downs and Julian Thompson each had 10 points for Coldwater while Bennett McDonald had 9 points. Drew Ennis had eight points and eight rebounds.
