BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Whether or not residents in the City of Bronson should be allowed to have chickens was discussed during Monday night’s Bronson City Council meeting.
After the matter was brought up last month by Bronson resident Tom Ludwick, City Manager Brandon Mersman presented Council members with a list of pros and cons.
Larry McConn was among the majority of Council Members who felt urban chickens should not be allowed.
But Bill Rinehart disagreed with the other four Council Members. He felt chickens should eventually be allowed in Bronson.
After several options were discussed, City Attorney Chuck Lillis advised the Council the chicken issue needs to be taken up by the city’s Planning Commission.
One audience member pointed out how urban chickens can be beneficial for the city.
The Council by consensus agreed with Lillis to send the matter to the Planning Commission.
