COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility Administrator Jayne Sabaitis told the Branch County Board of Commissioners during their work session on Thursday that as of the previous day, they had over $373,000 in cash on hand.
Her report detailed how they are financially holding up after voters soundly turned down a millage request in November. Sabaitis mentioned how they had an issue which has since been corrected with the company that takes care of their payroll.
She added the number of residents has been in the 80s.
But they are still having trouble hiring enough staff members.
The millage was requested because Maple Lawn officials claimed they had to deal with drastic increases in costs as well as a decrease in revenues because of the COVID-19 pandemic. They also said a difficult job market led to the Maple Lawn census being much lower which made for a significant revenue loss. The money would have been used for the operation of the facility over the next five years.
A divided Branch County Board of Commissioners decided in August to advance Maple Lawn $1 million and put the millage question on the November ballot. The $1 million advance would be in increments of $250,000 but Maple Lawn has not accepted any money from the county so far.
