COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council is scheduled to take action Monday night on the revised design of a permanent downtown public restroom building.
The Council in March of 2022 decided to push the restroom project back for at least a year in order to pursue a grant due in part to labor shortages and the high cost of building materials.
City Manager Keith Baker said in his memo to the Council for Monday’s meeting that the staff applied for a $50,000 grant from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and was awarded $20,000 for the restroom project.
In addition, city staff met with the project’s only bidder Brussee/Brady of Three Rivers and architect Scott Morrison to develop a revised bid based on the more simplified design.
Baker says the design was simplified by removing the decorative dormers from the roof, exchanging the decorative brick with a split faced concrete block along with other minor changes.
The revised bid submitted by Brussee/Brady Inc. is in the amount of $171,900 which is down from the original bid of $182,5000. In addition to the construction of the restroom building, the City will perform about $15,000 in utility work to connect the building to the City’s system.
The original bid did not include the utility work. The Council on Monday will be asked to accept the M.A.C.C. grant and award the construction contract to Brussee/Brady.
