QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – For the first time in the history of the Shawn Cockrell Memorial Tournament, the host Quincy Orioles captured the team championship on Saturday.
The tournament is held every year in honor of Shawn Cockrell. He was an outstanding wrestler for Quincy High School who lost his life in a 1993 traffic accident.
The Orioles had eight individual medalists including two champions.
Jacob Reif, capped off his final Cockrell tournament as a back-to-back tournament Champion at 132 pounds, and once again, won the tournament MVP trophy for the lightweight division.
Davin George was the champion at 190 pounds, winning his final Cockrell tournament.
Chayse Jensen (106), Gavin Peet (175) and Hamilton Spieth all finished second in the weight classes.
Landon Bearden (165) and Lucas Dixon (heavyweight) finished in third place.
Karter Pierce (126) took fourth place.
