THREE RIVERS, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater clamped down defensively and outscored Three Rivers in the second half 28-8 as they picked up a 49-24 non-conference win at the Purple Palace.
The Cardinals led 11-7 after the first quarter and 21-16 at halftime, but they turned up the pressure defensively to outscore the Wildcats 12-2 in the third quarter and 16-6 in the final frame.
Rylie VanAken led all scorers with 13 points, Emma Porter scored all 8 of her points in the fourth quarter, and cousins Coley Burkhardt and Danika Cox had 7 points apiece. Elli Anderson pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds and Elli Foley dished out 6 assists as Coldwater improved to 12-1. They will host Hastings Friday night.

The Lady Cardinal JV team lost a heartbreaker to the Lady Cats 34-28. Ayla McCowen led Coldwater with 7 points, while Natalee Wilson added 6.
Elsewhere, Quincy picked up a 57-20 win at future Big 8 foe Maple Valley. Neha Jain led the way with 20 points, and Alyssa McCavit had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. The Orioles improved to 4-8 and will visit Reading on Thursday.
