BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Old Man Winter awoke from his slumber on Wednesday.
The first winter storm since Christmas weekend arrived in Branch County in the pre-dawn hours.
Branch, Calhoun, Kalamazoo and St. Joseph Counties were under a Winter Weather Advisory until Wednesday evening as forecasters were calling for three to six inches of snow.
Hillsdale and Steuben Counties were expected to get heavier amounts of snow. They were under a Winter Storm Warning for an expected snowfall of five to nine inches.
The storm led to the cancellation of school around Branch County as students got their first snow day of the school year.
Bronson School Superintendent Steve Wilson had to apologize after information about his district’s cancellation of classes did not get out until about 7:00 a.m..
He said in a social media post, “There were technology issues and this is 100% my fault. We will put procedures in place to make sure this does not happen in the future. Again, we sincerely apologize.”
Some students had already been picked up and were returned home by school buses.
Up until Wednesday’s storm, hardly any snow had fallen during the month of January.
