LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Branch County’s unemployment rate went back up to four percent in December according to data released Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget.
The rate was at three-point-seven percent in November.
The report stated not seasonally adjusted jobless rates advanced in 16 of Michigan’s 17 labor market areas over the month
Associate Director of the Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives Wayne Rourke said in a statement released by the DTMB, “Regional labor markets demonstrated employment and workforce reductions during December. However, preliminary annual average jobless rates declined markedly over the year.”
The report showed Branch County had the 16th lowest unemployment rate among Michigan’s 83 counties.
Unemployment rates went up in neighboring counties.
It was four-point-one percent in St.Joseph County, four-point-four percent in Hillsdale County and four-point-five percent in Calhoun County.
Michigan’s December unemployment rate held steady at four-point-three percent.
Unemployment rates in December ranged from two-point-four percent in Livingston County to 15-point-nine percent in Mackinac County.
