COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater varsity basketball teams used strong second halves to get past Marshall on Ball Out for Cancer Night Friday at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium.
The Cardinal boys outscored the Redhawks 43-21 in the second half of their game, turning a slim 19-17 halftime lead into a convincing 62-38 victory. Donte Work led Coldwater with 17 points and 9 rebounds, while Ayden Dirschell had 14 points, 5 boards, and 5 steals, and Elijah Sloan scored 11. With the win, and with Harper Creek’s 52-41 win over Jackson Northwest, the Cardinals are all alone atop the Interstate 8 standings at 7-2, 8-6 overall. Coldwater, Marshall, and Northwest shared the league lead entering Friday’s action. The Cardinals will host the Mounties next Tuesday.

After being tied 13-13 at halftime, the Lady Cards outscored Marshall 22-7 in the second half of their game to bring home a 35-20 win. Mya Porter led all scorers with 10 points and added 8 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists. Elli Foley added 9 points and 6 rebounds while Elli Anderson scored 8. Rylie VanAken dished out 6 assists to go with her 5 points. Coldwater improved to 15-1 overall; at 9-1 in the Interstate 8, they remain a game behind league-leading Jackson Northwest, who the Cardinals will visit next Tuesday.
