COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Little River Railroad of Coldwater has started a GoFundMe page to raise funds for a wheelchair lift.
The current ramp was built to help those with mobility issues get aboard the train. But this ramp is said to be cumbersome and heavy, requiring four people to lift in position.
It also has a tendency to become slippery when it gets wet.
The fundraiser will help the railroad raise funds for the purchase of a wheelchair lift that can be operated by one person. It is used by Amtrak and several other tourist railroads throughout the United States.
The campaign goal is $10,000 which is the initial estimate for its purchase and shipping.
Campaign Director Matt Murawski says, “If the cost is less, the remaining monies will go directly toward the operation of the railroad so it may bring many more joyful memories for years to come.”
