COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – 911 Director Bob Swick told the Branch County 911 Communications Board on Wednesday they are pursuing a state grant to help fund training of dispatchers as the department continues to fight an ongoing shortage.
Swick said they are still waiting to hear if their application was approved by the state 911 Committee.
Swick estimated it cost his department almost $13,000 last year to train dispatchers.
Swick reported on Wednesday they were down to six full time dispatchers with one in training.
He said there were several different issues and reasons for the recent departure of employees but he did not offer any specific reason.
The open dispatcher positions are still posted on the county’s website. New hires start at $18 an hour
