COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater’s girls basketball team improved their record to 18-1 on Tuesday as they defeated Mattawan 44-28 in a non-conference game at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium.
After dropping their only game of the season to Jackson Northwest on January 10, the Cardinals have won 10 straight games.
Coldwater jumped out to a 9-5 lead after the first quarter and used a 20-9 second quarter to take a 29-14 halftime lead.
Coldwater only shot 28 percent from the floor, but they limited Mattawan to 21 percent shooting.
Mya Porter scored a game-high 20 points for the Cardinals. Elli Anderson grabbed 10 rebounds.

The JV girls team lost to Mattawan 30-20. Ta’viayah Hughes led the Lady Cards with 9 points, while Ayla McCowan chipped in 4 points.

In the Big 8 Conference, the Bronson Vikings pulled away from a 17-7 halftime lead as they defeated Branch County rival Quincy 54-14 on Tuesday night.
Bronson’s Haylie Wilson scored a game-high 18 points. Quincy was led by Alyssa McCavit who scored six points.
The Vikings are now 12-0 in the Big 8 Conference and 16-3 overall. The Orioles drop to 4-8 in the Big 8 and 6-12 overall.
Meanwhile, Union City lost at Jonesville 61-23. The Chargers are now 0-12 in the Big 8 and 2-16 overall.
