BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Quincy made the journey to Springport in Big Eight Boys’ Basketball action on Friday night and the Orioles were victorious over the Spartans, 42-31.
In the first quarter, Quincy and Springport engaged in a defensive battle, with the Spartans topping the Orioles, 8-7.
Springport outscored Quincy 13-9 in the second quarter, taking a 21-16 lead into halftime.
Quincy promptly tied the score 21-21 early in the second half before taking the lead they never relinquished.
The Orioles topped the Spartans 13-4 in the quarter, taking a 29-25 lead into the final quarter.
Quincy prevailed 13-6 in the final quarter, as the Orioles were 9-12 from the free throw line, bolstered by Sam Sawyer’s 5-6 performance.
Ashtyn Morris led the Orioles balanced attack with 10 points and nine rebounds. Ryan Kempter and Sawyer both scored seven points while Riley Miner had six points.
Quincy is now 10-8 overall, 5-6 in the Big Eight. The Orioles will travel to Bronson on Tuesday to take on the Vikings.
Elsewhere in Branch County boys basketball on Friday night, Bronson saw their four game winning streak come to an end as they lost at Homer 65-37. The Vikings are now 6-5 in the Big 8 and 9-9 overall.
Union City lost at Reading 53-41. Aidan Decker led the Chargers with 12 points. The Chargers are now 2-9 in the Big 8 and 7-11 overall.
Jonesville is in sole possession of first place in the Big 8 following their 40-29 win at Concord.
